Diabetic Ketoacidosis: Symptoms and Treatment
Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a serious complication of diabetes that occurs when your body produces high levels of blood acids called ketones. Symptoms of DKA include extreme thirst, frequent urination, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, weakness, confusion, and fruity-smelling breath.
If left untreated, DKA can lead to a diabetic coma or even death. Treatment involves careful monitoring of blood sugar levels, intravenous fluids to rehydrate the body, insulin therapy to lower blood sugar levels, and electrolyte replacement to restore balance.
